Special Education Conference – Trauma Sensitive, Educating the Whole Child

Steve Graner, the Keynote Speaker for Day One, is the Neurosequential Networks’ NME Project Director as well as a ChildTrauma Academy Fellow. Mr. Graner is best known for his creative approaches to teaching and coaching and combines a love of the arts and sports with a passion for pedagogy.
Matthew and Mitchell LeBerge will share their experiences and challenges in school and community while living with autism.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction consultants will be holding double-session breakout workshops on “Conducting Needs Based Special Education Evaluations” that highlight best practices for conducting comprehensive special education evaluations with a specific focus on the increasing need to understand the mental health and social/emotional needs of students. DPI will also provide a double session on “Developing College and Career Ready IEPs” with a focus on documenting present levels of functional skills compared to age and grade level peers; writing IEP goals with clear baselines and levels of attainment, collaborative goal IEP development, and effective progress monitoring procedures.
This conference will support those educators new / newer to special education along with experienced teachers, psychologists, and directors. This conference will also provide many other breakout sessions, a sped legal update, and DPI Special Education Director update.
